I’m happy to bring this mix series back with a new edition built around the Diana In The Autumn Wind album by Gap Mangione.
Sampled by producers such as J Dilla, Madlib, Swizz Beatz and DJ Cam, this cult-classic LP has been a holy grail for crate diggers and beat-makers for decades. Long treasured by collectors, original copies often changed hands for around $400, making the recent Be With Records reissue especially welcome.
Drawing from three tracks on the album (Mixcloud survival tactics!), I’ve put together a journey through some of my favorite hip-hop records built from these samples. From iconic flips to lesser-known gems, this mix explores the many different directions producers took from one remarkable record.
