Sub Focus – Torus

Producer/DJ Nick Douwma, better known as Sub Focus, released his second album Torus with Virgin EMI on September 30 and has already garnered great press and praise in its reviews. A torus in geometry is ring-shaped, formed by the rotation of a closed curve, and this sophomore release exemplifies a shift and revolution in Douwma as an artist. In the follow-up to his 2009 self-titled debut, Sub Focus demonstrates depth and dimension in his work, sprinkling some trance, electro, dubstep and drumstep in with what he does best: drum ‘n’ bass. With beautiful, ethereal vocals and catchy rhythms, Torus is already being hailed as one of the biggest releases of 2013. Title track “Torus” sets the tone of the album with its commanding synths, which transition nicely into “Safe In Sound,” which includes a sample from Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead” and UK Dance Chart Top Ten hit “Endorphins” featuring Alex Clare. The 13-track album is very vocal-driven with “Out the Blue” featuring Alice Gold, “Turn It Around” featuring Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, and “Until the End” featuring fan-favourite Foxes. Sub Focus will kick off a live UK headlining tour on October 16 in Bristol, UK.
