I’ve got a couple of live sets to showcase for the latest episode of Recycled Funk. As I was listening to these recorded sets, I began to appreciate the different dynamics of them.
The 1st set was recorded at a beautiful restaurant, lounge in East Hollywood, Los Angeles California. My set started early in the evening while the sun was still out, then transitioned into the night. I think the featured music conveys that type of vibe. That set was played utilizing a couple of flash drives plugged into a pair of CDJ’s. I could’ve played a vinyl set there, but I remember that particular day being a hot one in LA, and I was out & about all day and didn’t feel comfortable having my 45 bag lounging in a hot trunk…but anywhoo!
The 2nd set was recorded live at the almighty “Mobile Monday’s” party in NYC. It’s a weekly affair where the selectah’s only spin 45’s. The party is a mainstay of music aficionados and has been ongoing for many years now. I’ve attended many of them and have witnessed some of the finest DJ’s put it down fiercely at this event, so I was very happy to get an invite to rock along with the M.M. crew. Shoutout to their resident DJ’s Misbehavior, Natasha Diggs, Operator Emz, Just Blaze, Joey Covello. I’d say this set has a very classic NYC vibe & feel to it. The actual sets are longer than what’s presented here, so I just snatched what I felt where the best moments to highlight my different styles and approach to live sets based on these different dynamics.
So I hope you enjoy this coast to coast mix on a sunny, laid back LA type of day, or a cool, busy & bustling NYC type of day, or anything in-between wherever you are in this world!
