#30thAnniversary – Ultramagnetic MC’s “The Four Horsemen”

After a lukewarm reception for the “Funk Your Head Up” album released in 1992, the Ultramagnetic MC’s were back a little more than a year later on a new label, Wild Pitch Records, with “The Four Horsemen”. Once again, the magic of the debut LP “Critical Beatdown” is not repeated here, but it’s still an amazing project where the inimitable Kool Keith shows the extent of his talent as a writer and emcee. We can feel the direction he is taking for his future numerous solo work, creating a lane for the more abstract wordsmith. Add to that a jazzier sound provided by a couple of productions from Godfather Don and you have a memorable opus, the last one that deserves attention from one of the most legendary NYC Hip Hop groups of all time.

You can stream the album and two remixes, watch the videos and interviews from that era below, but also dig in the samples on www.whosampled.com.
