At the end of a calendar year, it’s normal and somewhat expected for one to reflect on the year that’s ending and look forward to the one approaching. I honestly don’t know where to begin that introspective convo this time around. That’s not completely true but um, yeah…2020 can kick rocks. It’s not just the end of a year, but also a decade. The first 20 years of this new century/millennium. The information age, the internet, iPods & mp3’s, social media, so on and so on. On a professional level the new century has been good to me. Being able to call music my full time job is a tremendous blessing, or so it was before a pandemic hit. But I’m optimistic about my future plans which should have me producing a lot more and DJ’ing a lot less. I can live with that! 2020 has been historic enough for all of us to reflect on. Add the other 19yrs and oh yeah…heavy stuff! So hopefully you’ve caught my previous Recycled Funk Mixes where I highlighted the years 1976, 1985, and 1994. To close out this Mix series I decided to compile a mix of some of my favorite musical selections to come out over the past 20 years. The only year I couldn’t really find something that worked or moved me was 2001. I’m sure there’s something out there that I’m missing from ’01 but anywhoo, this mix contains 40 stone cold classic or soon to be classic songs. 40 songs to reflect the calendar year 2020 (20+20). I’ve really enjoyed putting these “year specific” mixes together. Requires some research and the end result is a mix that I and others can enjoy for years to come.
