A mixed bag this week both stylistically and tempo wise and that’s the way it should be really. F.S. Blumm kicked the show off in pastoral style with a taste of his lovely new album about to drop on one of our favourite labels, Pingipung. Aloa Input then ran with the pop vibe with “Zweiklang” from their new release on Morr Music before Ital Tek waded in with some atmospheric footwork to herald his forthcoming footwork flavoured EP on Planet Mu which led nicely into the least sacharine track from the new BFlecha album on Barcelona’s Arkestra label. Krohn Jestram and Lippok then brought back the pop vibes in a German kind of way but melded it with an electronic finale befitting of a Tarwater collaborative effort.
Hartley and Wolfe sound like a chavvy UK clothing label but it is actually a pseudonym of DJ Vadim and Essex soulboy Greg Blackman and we’re loving the Temptations like uptempo soul vibes of “Wat I’ve Been Told”. Robot Koch then lowered the tempo with his new soundtrack project on Project Mooncircle which was closely followed by the fresh soul vibes of Harleighblu and her latest single “Let Me Be” from her great album, Forget Me Not out now on Tru-Thoughts. We then got deep into the long groove with the finest cut from Miracle’s new album on Planet Mu, “Organon” before Jeremiah Jae stepped in with some forward leaning hip hop from his new Warp Records project.
Illum Sphere has been on our radar since his Hoya Hoya early days and it’s nice to see him being picked up by Ninja Tune for his productions and “Sleeprunner” is more than a promising debut for the label. Gelbart is a producer from Tel Aviv, now living in Berlin (are there any producers not living in Berlin these days?) with a penchant for turning kids toys into musical instruments and general sonic experimentation and, believe it or not, “Meloda” is probably the most normal cut from his new album coming shortly on Gagarin. Percussive experimentation then followed from the meeting of Chronomad and Burnt Friedman under their Tohuwabohu moniker who also happen to boast this weeks worst song title, “0AFRM4” – catchy. Joe then dropped the percussive bass flavour which led nicely into some boogie experimentation from Imami before the show was nicely rounded off by King Of Hearts from the great NX compilation showcasing the hottest young talent from South East London’s New Cross barrio.
