#30thAnniversary – Fat Joe da Gangsta “Represent”

The name “Fat Joe” is not necessarily linked with hardcore Hip Hop, thanks in part to his platinum album “Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.)” and the hit single “What’s Luv?” featuring Ashanti. But back in 1993, when his name was Fat Joe da Gangsta, coming out of the celebrated D.I.T.C. crew, he was one of the hardest emcees in the game. So don’t expect R&B hooks on “Represent”, only straight street braggadocio and banging boom bap beats from some of the greatest of the early 90’s, Diamond D, Showbiz, Lord Finesse and The Beatnuts. One of the highlights is the remix of the single “The Shit Is Real” by DJ premier, that came out on the 12″ single released in 1994. That song is associated with the next album titled “Jealous One’s Envy” since it appeared also on that project, but it was already out for a minute and that’s why you will find this cut included in this article.
