Even if Del the Funky Homosapien had help from his cousin to find a label, the west coast legend Ice Cube who executive produced the project, he definitely created his own lane far from the gangsta rap of NWA. With tons of Parliament/Funkadelic samples all across the LP, Del seems to be impregnated by the free spirit of George Clinton, with inimitable lyrics and wordplay. But even if the single “Mistadobalina” is responsible for the success of the album, it’s really on the rawest tracks, especially the b-sides and remixes on the 12 inches, that we feel the bay area native is at his best.
The door was open for his Hieroglyphics crew to start a movement that still stands 30 years later.
Lucky for you, you can find all the remixes below + a couple of videos, a live performance and a special anniversary mix. Enjoy!
