Back for the fourth time on the legendary Cold Chillin’ label, Big Daddy Kane dropped “Prince of Darkness” in the last quarter of 1991. The reviews and critics were pretty hard on BDK, saying he was selling out for incorporating the “New Jack Swing” sounds of the moment on a couple of tracks. Listening now, 30 years later, it is obviously not Kane’s best effort, but with his flawless commanding flow always in full effect, you’ll still find a couple of interesting cuts. Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes from Leaders Of The New School make an appearance on the memorable “Come on Down”.
