#30thAnniversary – Big Daddy Kane “Looks Like a Job For…”

Big Daddy Kane was back with a vengeance in 1993 with “Looks Like a Job For…”, the follow up to the lackluster “Prince of Darkness”. With production from Easy Mo Bee, Large Professor and the Trackmasters, this LP is sonically much more enjoyable than its predecessor. The proof is right at the beginning with the title track and the single “How U Get a Record Deal?”, two incredible bangers where Kane sounds as hungry as ever. There’s a couple of mishaps, like the second single “Very Special” feat. Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa, pretty much a cover version of a Debra Laws song of the same name, with an uninspired beat produced by Kane himself with cheesy lyrics on top. It seems like the love track was the norm back then on every Hip Hop record, so we can’t blame BDK, since this song gave him his only Top 40 Billboard hit record. But all in all, a return to form from one of the greatest lyricists to ever touch a mic!
