Ghosts in the Machine: Xanadu Complex is a mixed metaphor about the voice in music today. Xanadu for me represents a set of styles and themes prevalent in a number of contemporary vocal genres. Stylistically ethereal voices, stutter glitches, heavily processed and synthesized vocals whisper like ghosts, in the machine like production. Thematically Xanadu music speaks to a life after the information age with man machine integration, soulful aliens and high tech gods for an information age form of spirituality. There are many influences in the past for whom similar music was called futuristic. That future however is no longer a dream of tomorrow but a reality of the day. We are the ghosts.
