About Rory PQ

Emerging from Detroit’s vibrant underground scene is an artist who has spent some time behind the curtains developing his craft and preparing to make a grand entrance into the music scene.

Rory PQ has been busy making a name for himself as a devoted producer, performer, and technologist with a focus on music education. Stylistically, his productions embrace the warm sounds of Deep Bass House and chic grooves of Nu-Disco. However, his taste in music is eclectic. His virtuosity harnesses a variety of music influences and inspirations aimed to add a deep sense of musicality into electronic music through instrumental nuances and melodies.

As an artist, Rory PQ has a deep-rooted passion for music and creativity. He is continuously working hard to develop his sound and knowledge further. His artistic ambition and devotion to evolve his craft drives him as an aspiring artist. Overcoming challenges of paralysis as a disabled Coast Guard Veteran, Rory continues to discover adaptive techniques and creative new ways to push forward while pursuing his musical endeavors.

Broadening his musical horizons, Rory actively introduces various artists to the vast creative possibilities of electronic music production through music tutorial articles, online tutorial videos, studio training sessions, and workshops. Rory also expands his reach in music education working at Dubspot, a cutting-edge electronic music production and DJ school, as well as manages the Detroit Ableton User Group.

His enthusiasm for experimentation and fascination for unique sounds has inspired him to develop cutting-edge Ableton Live Instrument and Effect Racks, Project Templates, custom Lemur interfaces, and synth presets for artists worldwide.

2011 marks the year Rory co-founded Sub÷Divizion Music, a record label and production service company that offers an arsenal of music tools, audio services, sound reinforcement, and educational resources to an expanding network of artists. Sub÷Divizion has quickly become a global community of musicians, DJs, producers, visual artists, and enthusiasts of all genres who share a genuine passion for music and its subculture. The fundamental goal is to educate and inspire while enhancing the culture of art, technology, and music.

2014 brought the launch of refused., a Windsor-based techno recording label curated by Justin James. With it, another opportunity for Rory to take on the role as label manager and web development manager. The philosophy behind refused. is quite simple, it’s a means to contribute to the special culture of underground music with forward-thinking techno from established artists and up-and-coming talent from around the globe.

Rory PQ is a propelling name you’ll soon recognize as he sets off to embark on his musical journey as an artist, label manager, educator, business owner, and student. In an effort to evolve his artistry, Rory will continue to explore the many aesthetics of music that motivate him to create rhythmic and harmonic grooves you can move too.
