#30thAnniversary – Showbiz & A.G. “Runaway Slave”

On the same day Diamond D put out the classic “Stunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop”, another outstanding LP from the D.I.T.C. family was released, Showbiz & A.G. “Runaway Slave”. This is the follow up to the 1991 “Soul Clap” warm up EP,  that includes the song “Diggin’ In The Crates”, the foundation to their crew name. With the same formula of digging extra deep to find new jazzy samples, Showbiz handles most of the production with a golden touch similar to his crew counterpart Lord Finesse and the aforementioned Diamond D, while also contributing as an emcee. Andre The Giant aka A.G. is the main voice on the project, a dope lyricist who appeared previously on multiple tracks from the excellent “Funky Technician” and “Return of the Funky Man” albums by Finesse. Can’t forget to mention the appearance of Dres from the Black Sheep fame and a young Big L for a guest verse on the track “Represent”. Don’t search for a radio hit, even the singles like the superb “Fat Pockets” sound unapologetically raw, but that’s the appeal of the whole project. For real Hip Hop heads only!

Stream the album below, but also remixes and tracks from their first EP, watch the videos, live performances, interviews and a crazy feature on Yo! MTV Raps with the whole D.I.T.C. crew in the building!
