#30thAnniversary – Ice Cube “Death Certificate”

Ice Cube’s second album and third project as a solo artist “Death Certificate” dropped right in the middle of the beef with his old group “NWA”. With the west coast crew attacking him with intensity on the “Efil4zaggin” LP, Cube came with a vengeance, especially on “No Vaseline”, one of the best diss tracks ever created. But there are so much more subjects tackled on this concept record, separated into two sides, “The Death Side: a mirror image of where we are today; The Life Side: a vision of where we need to go.” O’Shea Jackson offered another dose of politically charged content, creating a lot of controversy along the way, but also achieving much success, going platinum after a couple of weeks. On the beat side, this album leans to a more west coast vibe, with the help of Sir Jinx and the Boogie Men trio, instead of the east side sound of The Bomb Squad that was all over “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted“.

This is arguably the greatest album in Ice Cube discography and one of the best Hip Hop albums of 1991, so do yourself a favor, stream the full project on your favorite platform and watch the videos below.
