#30thAnniversary – Arrested Development “3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of…”

This crew from Atlanta was an absolute breath of fresh air when they exploded on the scene with “Tennessee” and this album release. Their somehow rural vibe, their sound and their subject matters (environment, religion, self awareness, social issues amongst others) was contrasting loud and clear with the NYC Boom Bap sound of the time and the soon to be dominating Gangsta Rap that was just about to blow all over. The whole project was produced by the group and the result was a unique organic masterpiece that ended up winning two Grammy awards in 1993. Their blend of Soul, Blues, Jazz and Urban sounds of the time lead them to worldwide success with a string of singles that could be heard all over the world in all types of clubs and commercial radios. 1992 was a different era! Even though the importance of this classic is often forgotten, Arrested Development paved the way for the southern sound that would later on made lots of noise with Outkast, Goodie Mob and Nappy Roots.
