After doing a range of best of mixes as well as a special All Brooklyn flavored guest mix right here on Brooklyn Radio, Paul DeLoecker is back with a solid selection of one the greatest: Kool G Rap!
I remember stumbling upon Kool G Rap’s “4, 5, 6” album in the CD section of the library. I’d never heard of him but I took it home ‘cause I noticed Nas was on the cover. I was not disappointed, to say the least. Discovering classic hip-hop albums in the library, those were the good old days!
He might not be as well known to the general public as his contemporaries Rakim, KRS-One or Big Daddy Kane, but he definitely had as much of an impact on the next generation of Hip-Hop artists. If not an even bigger impact. He heavily influenced some of my all time favorites like Nas, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big Pun, … If those are the people you fathered, you know you did something incredible for hip-hop.
