Take me to Mardi Gras, it’s a title and sentiment. Though I’ve been to N’awlins a couple of times, I’ve never been there during the famed festival. It’ll happen one of these years fo’sure. I’ve enjoyed a long love affair with the history and music of New Orleans. When I got into DJ’ing and buying vinyl, any classic material from N’awlins was a must for me to have. The music & culture has such a rich history. Especially on the Jazz and Funk tip. This mix leans heavy on the Funk side of thangs, just the way I like it, and what “Recycled Funk” is all about. My love affair with Funk music is rooted in the sound & style of the New Orleans old school era. This is the final Recycled Funk mix for 2021 and I specifically wanted that mix to be pure analog, aka strictly vinyl. My professional DJ career started 20 years ago, and back then it was strictly a vinyl affair for me. Since then I’ve seen the introduction of CD setups, the laptop computer & software, the flash drive. I’ve utilized them all, still do, but nothing ever feels as pure and enjoyable as a simple two turntables and a mixer, along with a bag filled with some of your favorite vinyl records. Technology comes and goes, evolves, but vinyl is forever and will always be my preferred way to play music, when the featured music is as classic as this! There are so many legendary music figures that have come out of N’awlins and I tried my best to give as many as possible a spot on this mix. If you enjoy that classic, Funky, N’awlins sound as much as I do, you’ll enjoy every minute of this mix. It’ll feel like a trip to…..
