Weekly Digest 4

Weekly Digest 4 – cover

German online store Inflammable started a mixtape series in cooperation with clothing brand Mazine in which they focus on musicians they love.

Starting off this series is Melting Pot’s Dexter. He’s a vinyl digger, crazy about beats and always on the look out for the perfect sample. In this mix titled “Things I Did Last Year” he combines current rap, his love for funk and his own beats – making up his musical impressions from the last year (duh!)

If you dig this mix, be on the lookout for Dexter’s upcoming album “The Trip” and check his previous releases on Melting Pot Music (MPM).

Enough talk! Download the mix here, put on your headphones and enjoy the mix!

Remember Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats & Thelonious Martin teamed up for the track “BKLYN” last January? These two linked up once again and bring you another treat. Even though “Break Ya Neck” only runs for 57 seconds, they show one more time the collaboration works real well! We are not the only ones who think they need to get together for a full length release!

Horsemove, the first single from Horseman’s forthcoming album for Mr. Bongo, ʻDawn of the Dreadʼ. Inspired by a horse race, Horsemove was written in 1985 and released under the title Giddiup. It proved a successful hit back then, spending four weeks at the top of the British reggae charts. This new version comes backed with production from Horseman acolyte Prince Fatty who updates the riddim for 2013 with a solid, bouncing bassline and a rejuvenated drum track. Horseman, real name Winston Williams, has been honing his drumming and MCing skills for close to three decades now and has worked with the likes of Tippa Irie, Max Romeo, Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs and Sugar Minot among others. For the last few years heʼs been the resident drummer and MC for Prince Fatty and Hollie Cook.

Björk and MOCA shared the video for Biophilia’s “Mutual Core”,  which shows Björk up to her waist in sand, which turns out to house rocky creatures that you definitely wouldn’t want to find buried at the beach. Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, who did the artwork for the Biophilia remix album as well.

In his new video for “Sputnik” Homeboy Sandman turns into an old school private detective, complete with funky hat and wooden office. Instead of rambling endlessly about clues and suspects, he drops ill rhymes as usual. Boy Sand’s First of a Living Breed is out now.

The queen of pop music today – Rihanna – is dropping her new album any day now and Kanye West jumped on the remix of her first single “Diamonds”. Ye adds one verse, rapping about everything under the sun: the Illuminati, Hurricane Sandy, half-naked Jewish girls, and “Chocolate Rain” YouTube sensation Tay Zonday.

Put your diamonds in the sky.

The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack hit hard! Last week RZA released an alternate (and better) version of “White Dress” w/ Kanye. Same lyrics, uptempo beat. Worth checking out:

The film hit theaters November 2nd, but while the soundtrack is one of this year’s highlights, we found the movie to be barely “aight”. Too many flat characters – better dialogs would have definitely benefited the movie. RZA should stick to his guns/swords and focus on producing music – as an actor he’s pretty hilarious. I think he is doing a good job directing movies, but shouldn’t play with big actors like Lucy Liu and Russel Crowe. If saw the movie already, let us know what you think!
