#30thAnniversary – Pete Rock & CL Smooth “All Souled Out”

Arguably the best Hip Hop EP of all time, “All Souled Out” is the perfect introduction to the sound of Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. Coming out as a warmup for their first classic album “Mecca And The Soul Brother” on Elektra Records, this 6 track masterpiece demonstrates perfectly the genius of Pete Rock on the production tip. He was already making noise with some remix work prior to this EP, but his trademark technique of beatmaking, using multiple samples in perfect harmony to create a rich and soulful sound, is in full effect on this debut. It’s the perfect backdrop for C.L. to let loose the sharp laidback flow he is now well known and loved for. A match made in heaven, nothing less! Can’t forget… we’ve learned on this project that Pete can rap too, on the uptempo jam “The Creator”.
