#30thAnniversary – Da Brat “Funkdafied”
The debut album by Da Brat, Funkdafied, marks a significant milestone in hip-hop history as the first album by a female rapper to sell over a million copies. While Da Brat’s rapping skills are undeniable, her style leans heavily on the West Coast sound, largely due to the G-Funk-influenced production of Jermaine Dupri. Despite these influences, Funkdafied stands out with its undeniable attitude and spirit, showcased perfectly on the title track. Though she relies on her signature catchphrase, “Brat-tat-tat-tat” a bit too often, her confidence on the mic and the slick production make the album engaging from start to finish.
