A Tribute to D’Angelo Volume 3 – Covered & Sampled

Start listening

“For the third installment of my D’Angelo tribute mix series, I decided to take a different approach from most tributes out there. Every track in this mix is either a full-on cover of a D’Angelo song or a piece that samples his voice or music.

D’Angelo has influenced an entire generation of artists and reshaped the sound of R&B every time he released an album. It would’ve been easy to just pull together songs from the so-called neo-soul movement and call it a day. But what really sparked my curiosity, and made me suspect I might be the first to tackle a mix from this angle, was discovering how many artists sampled his music to create something new.

In this mix, you’ll hear music from VanJess, Hodgy Beats, Capone-N-Noreaga, The Game, Black Thought, J Dilla, Madlib, Roman GianArthur, BJ The Chicago Kid, Folamour and many more.

Big shoutout to www.WhoSampled.com, whose platform helped me track down a lot of these gems. They’re truly an essential resource for a project like this.”
