It wasn’t rare in the 90’s Hip Hop scene to see a young artist or group releasing music in their early teens. But none of them were as skilled, real and represented the street life like Wu-Tang affiliate Shyheim. Over sinister productions from RNS (except for one track by The RZA), “The Rugged Child” gave a chilling description of life in Staten Island, with the high pitch voice of a child, but with the lyrics and wordplay of a man who saw it all. The first single “On & On” is an official ghetto classic, a track which got the remix treatment from one of the best producers of all time, DJ Premier.
