Salt-N-Pepa couldn’t have chosen a better name for their fourth studio album “Very Necessary”. In a Hip Hop world dominated mostly by misogynistic men, Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandy “Pepa” Denton and Deidra “Spinderella” Roper were a breath of fresh air needed to create some kind of balance. Not afraid of showcasing a strong sense of feminism, they tackle subjects like relationships, romance and sex with a vision that was almost nonexistent before them. They also managed to be really successful with three unforgettable singles, “Shoop”, “Whatta Man” with En Vogue and “None of Your Business”, the latter giving them their first Grammy Award, while going five times platinum. Probably the best LP of the discography of this important band in Hip Hop history!
