#30thAnniversary – Mobb Deep “Juvenile Hell”

On the way to becoming one of the best Hip Hop duo in Hip Hop history, Havoc and Prodigy released their debut album “Juvenile Hell” on April 13, 1993 through 4th & B’way Records. This LP is not on the level of their classic follow up “The Infamous“, but it’s still a strong first release, setting the tone for Mobb Deep’s bright future. Sounding a bit younger (they were still teenagers after all), they already had the menacing flow they are known for, while Havoc showcased his production ability on most songs. But the highlight of the opus comes from an outside producer, the beat of the excellent first single “Peer Pressure” is produced by DJ Premier and it’s a certified classic in Mobb Deep discography.

The album failed to chart and they got dropped by the label… only to come back stronger two years later!
