#30thAnniversary – Boogie Down Productions “Sex and Violence”

For the 5th and last album under the “Boogie Down productions” name, it felt like KRS-One was refocusing on the art of MCing. You’ll find a great dose of punchlines and jabs aimed at his detractors over mostly aggressive beats offered by Kenny Parker, Pal Joey, D-Square, Prince Paul and KRS himself. Even if some tracks didn’t age well (the lyrics of 13 and Good is the best example for obvious reasons), the album is still a solid effort and, in some way, an underappreciated gem in BDP discography. The LP didn’t sell that well, probably a backlash of the incident where BDP jumped on stage during a concert performance by PM Dawn earlier that year, a really popular alternative Hip Hop duo at that time. Overall, this is without a doubt an unavoidable release from one of the best MCs to ever bless a mic!

Stream the album on your favorite platform, enjoy some amazing remixes (one from ATCQ), watch the videos and an apparition on the legendary Arsenio Hall show from that era.
