#30thAnniversary – Chubb Rock “The One”

Even if Chubb Rock had a minor hit with “Ya Bad Chubbs” from his second album “And The Winner Is…”, his real breakthrough project is definitely “The One” released in 1991 with his partner and cousin Howie Tee. The three singles “Just the Two of Us”, “Treat ‘Em Right” and “The Chubbster” all did well on the US chart. The Jamaica born Brooklyn based artist commanding flow and lyrical dexterity are displayed throughout the album, cementing his place into the list of early 90’s best MC’s.

Other than the album, we’ve compiled below some live performances and interviews but also all the remixes from the 12 inches. Pay attention to “The Chubbster (Clark’s Smooth Haus Mix)”, definitely one of the best “Hip House” tracks from that era, a period in Hip Hop where the crossover House track was almost mandatory but often subpar if not straight up bad! Not the case with this one!
