When D’Angelo released the first single from his debut album Brown Sugar, a myriad of official remixes appeared across various 12-inch single versions. Since the acapella was available on vinyl, many producers also tried their hand at creating their own remixes. The result was an impressive number of different versions and, quite honestly, most of the official ones sound really good.
What we’ve done here is compile some of the best of them, including a more recent uptempo flip by K, Le Maestro, so you can decide for yourself who did it best.

One remix by the legendary Beatminerz appears only on the promo version of the single (EMI – SPRO-19796). It’s quite hard to find, and although we tried to upload it to YouTube, it was unfortunately restricted by the powers that be. Luckily, we managed to track it down on SoundCloud, so even if the audio quality isn’t perfect, we decided to include it here.
