Kool Shen and JoeyStarr of Suprême NTM are true pioneers of the French Hip Hop movement alongside IAM. “Authentik”, their first album, paved the way for the acceptance and credibility of Hip Hop in the French music scene. Their vibe was straight up on the hardcore tip with a tense and nervous production style reminiscing of the Bomb Squad. Lyrically, they were stressing out all the inequalities, the racism, the police brutality and the politics of the “banlieues” (the inner city). The album was eventually certified gold and it’s a perfect introduction to this essential act showcasing some hardcore rap with a powerful meaning.
