Aceyalone, Myka 9, P.E.A.C.E., and Self Jupiter aka Freestyle Fellowship dropped their first album in 1991 via an underground label, Sun Music. Hailing from Los Angeles, the music is not close to what most gangster hip hop bands we’re doing on the west coast at the time. Here you get raw soulful & jazzy beats and mostly conscious lyrics from gifted MC’s. The LP sounds more like a demo for the most part, but it still shows the enormous potential of the group, paving the way for the great “Innercity Griots” album in 1993.
