#30thAnniversary – Beastie Boys “Check Your Head”

For the follow up to the commercial flop of “Paul’s Boutique” (this project became a cult classic over the years), the Beastie Boys kind of came back to their Punk Rock roots. With the help of keyboardist Money Mark and co-producer Mario Caldato Jr, Michael “Mike D” Diamond (drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (bass), and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (guitar) grabbed their respective instruments again to create most of the music backdrop, in their own L.A. G-Son studios. Don’t get us wrong, the album is still full of dope raps and groovy rhythms, but it’s honestly the variety of music influence spread throughout the LP, without sacrificing the coherence, that really sets this project apart from their first two albums. A masterpiece that deserves to be kept in heavy rotation ’till the end of time!
