Deep Sea Elementality Productions is getting ready to release Ayatollah’slatest project as Avant Garde will be released March 2013 including 13 new instrumentals from the legendary Queens-based producer. Ayatollah erupted onto the late-90′s Hip-Hop scene with his signature soulful sound during the heyday of the Rawkus-era with Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty” and the Styles P & Pharaohe Monchcollaboration “The Life.” Since then, he’s gone on to craft records with some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names including Rakim, Kool G Rap, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Royce da 5’9″, Talib Kweli, Cormega, Large Professor, Masta Ace, Sean Price, Saigon and Tragedy Khadafi. With nine instrumental albums to his name, Tollah is certainly no stranger to releasing his creations sans Hip-Hop’s customary vocal accompaniment by an emcee. The series initially came about as an outlet for him to explore his creativity as a producer. “I wanted people to see my different sounds and styles” says Ayatollah. While some of Tollah’s previous instrumental efforts focused on the exploration of sound, Avant Garde was crafted with that Rawkus-era in mind. “I really got to open up and truly get raw on the drum machine.” he explains. “I do not set out to adapt the music I make to new trends. I would rather the music I create become or set new trends on its own terms, naturally.” Avant Garde will be available on iTunes and other fine music retailers worldwide on March 5th. To hold you over until the lead single drops in early February, we’ve included Me, Myself & Akai, a 40+ minute continuous mix of Ayatollah’s biggest hits, B-sides and rarities by DJ K.O.
